- Cold is generally colder than cool. Cool has a more positive meaning ie its hot and you want to feel cool.
- Cold>>>>> Cool>>>>>> Warm>>>>>>Hot.
3C>>>>>> 15C>>>>>> 30C>>>>>>>60C (water temps)
difference between cold and freezing
- Freezing is colder than cold.
difference between cold and chilly
- From what I've seen, chilly means weather that has a cool wind and mostly after rain and during the fall/winter months it brings a chill to your body. (Cool or cold enough to cause shivering.)
Cold is just flat out cold, usually with the a clear sky at night but mosty with cloudy skies to make it seem dreary. Nothing is going to change the degree to make it warmer than it is. Warmth is just completey absent. Winter months like December, January and February.
- cold weather is colder than chilly weather
difference between warm and lukewarm
- Warm is slightly above room temperature and makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside.
Lukewarm is equal to room temperature and doesn't really make you feel anything.
- Lukewarm is at room temperature and warm is warmer than room temperature
difference between lukewarm and tepid
- I don't know that there is much difference between these words. Both are usually used in reference to the temperature of water. Also, I can't see how the temperature of water can be understood as being more or less positive. I would say that the coffee is lukewarm and the swimming pool is somewhat tepid - but that is merely a subjective response.
- I agree that they signify the same temperature but I would use tepid for
not warm enough and lukewarm if I would prefer it cooler.
- As far as temperature goes, I would say they're probably pretty similar. The only difference I can think of is that water cools down from hot to lukewarm, but if it starts cold and only goes up in temperature a small amount, it only reaches tepid. That's not a rule though, that's probably just how I happen to use it.
