Difference Between Drug and Medicine

Difference Between Drug and Medicine

From chemistry point of view, there is no distinction between the terms drugs and medicines, i.e., all drugs are medicines and all medicines are drugs. However, our society and law make a clear-cut distinction between these two terms as follow:

A medicine is a chemical substance(бодис) which cures(эдгээх) the disease(өвчин), is safe to use, has negligible(өчүүхэн) toxicity(хортой байдал) and does not cause addiction(дон). In contrast(харьцуулахад), a drug is a chemical substance(бодис) which also cures(эдгээх) the disease but is habit(зуршил) forming(үүсгэлт), causes addiction and has serious side effects (side effect - харш нөлөө)
.

What is the difference between drug & medicine?

Medicines can be any sort of drugs, either man made or natural. Medicines are drugs you take to cure a medical problem. When people speak of someone taking "drugs" they usually mean illegal drugs that people take to feel a certain way but are not taking to cure a disease. Illegal drugs are usually highly addictive. That's why they call these people drug addicts.
