difference between desire, want, and wish

desire - (хүсэн тэмүүлэх, хүслээ биелүүлэх)desire means a strong wish in which a person is gonna use his effort to fulfill it. The word ‘desire’ is used in the sense of ‘an unsatisfied longing(эрмэлзэл) or craving(мөрөөдөл)’ as in the expression ‘desire for wealth’. The word ‘desire’ in the expression gives the sense of ‘craving or longing for wealth’.

difference between desire, wish

  • desire means a strong wish in which a person is gonna use his effort to fulfill it.
wish means you have feelings for something but u are not using efforts to fulfill it and u hope that ur wish fulfils naturaly

  • To me, desire implies a willingness to actively participate in achieving the outcome. Wish is more passive - like a quiet longing - whereas desire is NOT passive. It is fiery. It implies you would be thrilled to roll up your sleeves and do whatever it takes to make it happen.

If a man tells a woman that he "wishes" for her instead of "desires" her, he might as well go home now....

  • Wish and Desire are two words in the English language that are often confused. They appear to have similar meanings but strictly speaking there is some difference between the two words.
Wish is often accompanied(дагалдах, дагах) by an aspiration(тэмүүлэл, хүсэл эрмэлзэл) for something as in the expression ‘wish for happiness’.
One of the main differences between the words ‘wish’ and ‘desire’ is that the quality of ‘craving’ is not found in ‘wish’ whereas the word ‘desire’ is always accompanied by the quality of ‘craving’ in its sense.
